Programming Notes Another month has dawned on us again with March. We just finished our heaviest lifts of the current cycle and will now be having a deload week. We know there isn't anything quite fun about a deload session. The weights maybe seem too easy, and it doesn't feel like it is accomplishing as much. Keep in mind, however, that with a deload, the goal is to allow a brief rest for our muscles, rather than have them demand it in the form of an injury from over training. On the other hand, something tells us that most of you are going to be okay with a break from ab wheels. In terms of our other work, we will be introducing more variations in the form of "kettlebell flows": a string of movements done together with one flowing seamlessly into the next. It is different than a complex, because a flow is not as strictly bound like our complexes. Most of these will have a set work time, allowing people to go at a pace that fits them, not only skill wise but allowing flexibility for people going up in bell sizes. Member Spotlight: Thomas Hale![]() You have been very steady since joining BellHaus Fitness, even though you hadn't really ever picked up a barbell before. What is it that keeps you coming back? Before starting BellHaus, I had been thinking about working out on my own but didn't know where to start. What's a good regimen? How much weight do I start with? What's form? BellHaus was a way for me to workout without having to know anything. I show up, do what Coach Matt tells me to, and go home. It's like getting swole for dummies. Now, it's a given Shakira's hit songs will get you pumped for a lift or workout, but what else do you tend to listen to while working out? 90's/early 2000's rock brings out my teen angst. It's not a phase - this is who I am! What movement is your favorite when it shows up in the gym? Presses because I'm all about building my guns. What is the biggest benefit you have seen from strength training? I had always been naturally skinny and at least somewhat active. At one point, I went to the doctor and weighed in at 6 feet and 140 pounds. After graduating college, I became more sedentary and ate a lot more junk - there's always snacks of some kind in the office. The first time I saw 180 on the scale, I knew something had to change, and it wasn't going to be the snacks. BellHaus is the beginning of healthier life. What else do you get up to when not sweating it out in the gym? I'm big into computer gaming, mainly strategy games like Sim City, Factorio, and the Civilization series. I've recently started playing Overwatch, which has led to an appreciation of competitive gaming. Dallas has a professional Overwatch team that I support every Wednesday and Saturday. 1st Annual St. Patrick's Day TGU Competition![]() On Saturday, March 17th, BellHaus Fitness will be hosting its first annual St. Patrick's Day Beer TGU Competition! What is a "Beer TGU" you may ask? Simple. It's a Turkish Get Up while you balance a beer. What's not so simple? Balancing the beer. Join us at our 9am class on St. Patrick's Day in order to participate! A prize will be awarded to the athlete who can do a single (or the most) TGUs. We'll see you there! Articles We Recommend
